TOO HIGH - WHAT TO DO
How to deal with too much THC.
"No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path." - Buddha
Here is some sage advice to help poor souls lost temporarily, to walk out of the deep dark forest of ToomuchTHC land. Nearly everyone who's used marijuana can tell you a story or two, where they had too much, and maybe way, way too much. New users who are THC intolerant or are very high responders can have an terrible introduction to marijuana. What are the causes of over-consumption? What can you do about an anxiety attack, dizziness, couch lock, paranoia or even visions of dead relatives?
THC TRAINWRECK - HOW TO GET BACK ON THE RAILS
Hyper responder. a small quantity of cannabis activates the receptor system that controls emotion, rhythm, energy, appetite and so on.
TOO MUCH "AMBITION"
Starting dose can be way too high for a new user who has little tolerance to THC. In time some patients reap the medical benefits of THC by starting with small doses and working up.. Edibles - overconsumption. It is easy to mess up. The edible baker can mess up on the calculation, the weed could be much more potent than expected and the pot patron can be overserved.
NEW STRAIN - POTENT AS HELL
New Strain - sometimes one can be overzealous when trying a new strain, one that turns out to be a candidate for the Guinness Book of World Records for most potent strain on the planet.
Wrong Strains - Many strains have the CBD and other balancing cannabinoids bred out of them. Some people respond much better to strains that are balanced.
It is natural to want to relax after a bad day at the office. In our efforts to unwind before we go mad, caution can be thrown to the wind, and overconsumption results. While being over served with Marijuana not damaging to the organs, like saying alcohol, temporary paranoia and psychosis brought on in some people, can and should be avoided, through intelligent and mature cannabis practices.
On the bright side, people that are too high on pot tend away from violence and self harm. These conjectures are borne out in statistics that show that, in states where marijuana is legal, suicide rates drop, overdose rates drop, DUIs drop. With that said, there are more than a few visits to emergency from panic attacks brought on by weed consumption.
"We discovered and named the entourage effect (in balanced strains with CBD and other cannabinoids) quite a few years ago. But it has never been investigated in a clinical trial. I believe that it is of value. But so is CBD alone." - direct quote of Raphael Mechoulam.
Different strains of cannabis contain unique amounts of cannabinoids and terpenes. The amounts of cannabinoids THC, THCV (works opposite to regular THC), CBD and terpenes like myrcene, pinene, limonene, and caryophyllene work in synergy, in wonderfully known and unknown ways to produce mental and physical effects. It is a matter of different strokes for different folks.
"A plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow."
WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU'RE WAY TOO HIGH
There are many things you can do that can help or even stop your bad trip. Just by trying things that might work can be a kind of cure on its own. In following the steps below, by taking your mind of your anxiety, you're already going in the right direction. Then there is the power of suggestion, the placebo effect, 20-30% of people respond positively to any sugar-pill treatment, when they believe it will work.
"Strains high in THC - up to 35% They are very valuable for the growers. Much less so in the hands of recreational users." - Dr. Raphael Mechoulam
STOP CONSUMING - TAKE PEPPERCORNS
Don't smoke any more pot. You can try eating peppercorns, which contains terpenes that are known to miraculously moderate THC's psychoactive effects. Neil Young for one, keeps on rockin in the free world by consuming peppercorns whenever he's not feeling comfy with his weed. Unless you've learned otherwise, stop drinking alcohol for an hour at a minimum. THC over consumption and alcohol can make you feel really dizzy and throw up. While this could be embarrassing, you might be able to sleep it off and even feel fine the next day, haven "exorcised the demons".
PANIC - PARANOIA
Pull yourself together. Will your emotions away from paranoia and fear.
Remind yourself that the effects of toking will wear off in an hour or so. Think about being strong and push yourself to be calm. One famous comedian, Joey Diaz, is a veteran marijuana user that had a panic attack out of the blue, just as he was about to go on stage.
Diaz said to his old friend that was managing the show, get another guy to go on, I am fucked, I am having an anxiety attack. As his buddies fumbled looking for the replacement, not really recognizing the need to save our comedian from certain disaster and humiliation, he felt betrayed. Then he got very angry. Then he said, I'm going on NOW, you fucking worthless pieces of shit. Joey said he had his best show ever, attacking every line of his already aggressive script, with fervor.
HYDRATE and EAT
Take in some mineral water. Wait half an hour. Eat if you have any appetite at all. Water and food tend to set in motion a balancing effect on the cannabinoid receptor system that has gone off temporarily.
GO FOR A NICE WALK
“My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the heck she is.” - Ellen DeGeneres
It you're not too dizzy, and there is a good environment to go for walk, like a park, beach or forest, after only ten or fifteen minutes you can start to feel better. If you're not feeling good after 20 minutes go home and rest. If sleep is impossible, you can do some simple task for awhile. It's only a matter of time before you're back to normal.
“I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in.” - John Muir
SHOWER - HOT TUB - STEAM
A good hot shower or even a cold one works wonders most of the time. Steam is excellent for accelerating and normalizing mind / body functions, with the tendency, of course, to relax and sedate.
“Somebody just gave me a shower radio. Thanks a lot. Do you really want music in the shower? I guess there's no better place to dance than a slick surface next to a glass door.” - Jerry Seinfeld
While you might not be in the mood after over consuming THC, you might find yourself digging favorite tunes like never before. After all, it's no accident that marijuana is very popular among the greatest musicians.
"It really puzzles me to see Marijuana connected with narcotics—dope and all that kind of crap... it’s actually a shame... First place, it’s a thousand times better than whiskey... it’s an assistant." - Louis Armstrong
MOVIES - TV - VIDEO GAMES
Movies, TV, and cartoons might grab your attention in new and wonderful ways as the brain chemistry begins to reset. Video Games can be the ultimate distraction from anxiety as the player moves out of his anxious reality into a virtual reality, where death is not a big deal.
“We take the abundance of pot smokers among core video game players as something normal and somewhere between a joke and an annoyance,” - Dennis Scimeca Kotaku Web
Take a vaping with a large dose of CBD without much THC. CBD strains include Harlequin, AC/BC, Cannatonic, Charlotte's Web and Halley's Comet. A dose of 100mg CBD - in oil - has worked wonders for some.
"Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many naturally occurring compounds called Phyto-Cannabinoids found in certain strains of the Cannabis/Marijuana plant. CBD has many medicinal properties; it acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-pain and antioxidant. CBD is non psychoactive (will not get you high), has minimal side effects and in recent years has gained the reputation of being the most valuable Cannabinoid in the Cannabis plant."
SPICE - SYNTHETIC CANNABINOIDS
You should never try synthetic cannabinoids, or spice as its known on the street. The can be 100x stronger (or more) than THC. While death by natural cannabis is pretty much impossible, this is not true of spice, or nuclear cannabinoids. Darwin's theory of evolution states that the weak tend not to survive and this would include both body and mind.
There is the scenario where synthetic cannabinoids can be taken in ignorance. In this case, you're probably in the company of the wrong people. If you have a bad trip and you think it was spice, get yourself to emergency right away.
"Synthetic cannabinoids (spice) are different from the Marijuana. They can easily be toxic.
A person should be crazy to test a synthetic cannabinoid on himself." - Dr. Mechoulam
